After finishing the mid-week game against Norton 4-4, Chester le Street Town were ready to welcome Leeds United Ladies to Moor Park. In the same fixture last season United came away 2-1 winners so the Cestrian’s were determined not to let that happen this season.
Chester used a 3-5-2 formation using Katie Ellison and Kacie Elson as attacking full backs. There were a couple of players missing one of which was goalkeeper Stephanie Jones who was ill. A call up was made to Robyn Parker who hadn’t played for the team for a while.
After just 3 minutes on the clock Leeds take the lead through Holly Orr, it’s wasn’t the best of starts but Chester looked to get back on track as soon as they could.
On 16 minutes Chester had a corner taken by Tiegan Hutchinson which she put into the 6 yard box. Both Lynsey Longhurst and Laura Hockaday leaped for the ball and Lynsey managed to get the past touch to header it into the back of the net 1-1.
Leeds scored a 2nd goal on 30 minutes scored by Rebecca Hunt, who is from Chester-le-Street.
The Cestrians didn’t give up, they continued to pass the ball up front but the Leeds defence managed to stop them each time.
On 39 minutes history was made as Brogan Prudhoe was the first Chester le Street Town senior player to be sent to the sin bin for dissent, Brogan did apologise to the referee before the start of the 2nd half. Half time and the visitors lead 2-1, Chester needed to improve after the break.
Chester started off the 2nd half playing well with some attacking runs by Kacie Elson on the right also Shannon Etherington looking to control the play in the middle.
53 minutes and Leeds grabbed a 3rd goal shooting from just outside of the area beating Robyn Parker, 1-3. Soon after Tiegan Hutchinson got through on Leeds goal but her shot went just wide.
68 minutes and Leeds score again 1-4, it was local girl Rebecca Hunt who had also score the visitors 3rd goal so that was her hat-trick.
Chester-le-Street then made a double substitution as Jessica Ellison replaced Abigail Thompson and Lucy Jackman replaced Tiegan Hutchinson.
The score line didn’t stop Chester from trying to get back into the game as Laura Hockaday tried to find ways past the defence and Katie Ellison put some long balls into the box. Unfortunately the visitors consistently found ways to put a halt to the attacking moves.
81 minutes gone and Leeds score their 5th goal, this was probably the visitors best goal of the game as it was truck from around 30 yards out and just flew into the top right hand corner of the goal.
Full time and the visitors leave Moor Park as 1-5 winners, the Cestrians now have to put this game behind them and look toward the 22nd when they welcome Durham Cestria to Moor Park for the first time.
