Chester le Street Town started the game facing a very strong wind and rain in their faces. Not surprisingly Ryton pressed hard with their wind advantage but Chester defended well. Ryton came close to making the breakthrough after 21 minutes when Tyler Davis fired in a shot from the edge of the area which rebounded clear off the post. Ryton did take the lead after 26 minutes when a long clearance from keeper Josh Graham bounced into the Chester area and with no defender able to
reach the ball, James Thompson nipped in to lift the ball over Regan Ward.
After 35 minutes Davis let fly from 35 yards and the ball clipped the top of the bar. Chester equalised on the stroke of half-time when Joseph Blackbourne found some space to head in unchallenged from a corner.
Chester created an opening after 47 minutes but Owen Henderson’s shot from the edge of the area went just wide of the post. Ryton scored what proved to be the winning goal after 52 minutes when a free kick was played into the area and Scott Jasper nipped in to turn the ball into the net. It was probably a game
where we did not deserve to lose but I don’t think we did enough in the second half.
