Chester-le-Street Town Ladies travelled to Barnsley looking to capitalise on the 3-1 win earlier in the season when Barnsley visited Moor Park. The Chester ladies hadn’t actually played a game since the 9th December when they had travelled to Liverpool Federal Marshalls in the FA WNL Plate.

There were a couple of players missing, Kacie Elson is currently serving a 3 match ban and also speedster Lizzy Thompson-Clarke was unavailable due to work commitments. Lauren Henderson was called up from the St. Cuthbert’s

Within the first 12 minutes of the match goalkeeper Robyn Parker had to make a couple of good saves as Barnsley tried to make the most of the home advantage. The first half mostly consisted of a midfield battle, the Cestrians struggled at times to pass the ball accurately.

On 24 minutes Barnsley had a really good shot at the Cestrian goal but Robyn Parker pulled off a superb diving save. On the 32nd minute Barnsley’s pressure paid off as they scored the 1st goal of the game.

With 41 minutes gone Nichole Goundry-Havery was piling pressure on the Barnsley defence but unfortunately no-one had made a run to keep up with her, and possession was lost. Soon after there was a high ball into the Barnsley 6 yard area but Brogan Prudhoe headed just wide after coig under pressure for the header by a Barnsley defender.

Barnsley go into the break 1 -0 up, and on the restart Chester-le-Street made a substitution Jade Clark replacing Jess Ellison

The second  half was almost a continuation of the first half as in Robyn Parker made another good save early on. After 55 minutes skipper Anna Collin came off to be replaced by Lucy Jackman. At this stage Barnsley were continue to apply pressure but the Cestrians started to play better football hopeful of gaining an equaliser. On 66 minutes a free kick taken by Rachel Mellor was well saved by Barnsley’s goalkeeper.  Barnsley increased their lead after 77 minutes, when they were awarded a penalty to make it , 2-0.

On 75 minutes Chester-le-Street made their final substitution, Lindsey Wilkinson coming off and Lauren Henderson coming on.

Chester-le-Street did try to get some shots at the goal but not enough to worry the Barnsley goal keeper. The game ended with a 2 -0 to  Barnsley.
