Match report
Chester le Street Town Ladies travelled to FC of Manchester Ladies for this First Round proper Womens FA Cup game and came away with a resounding 5-0 victory and set up a home game in the 2nd Round proper against Stoke City Ladies of the NWL on 2 December.
Due to the Manchester derby being held FC United of Manchester e=were unable to play at their own ground so switched venue to a nearby ground in order to get the game played . Attention to detail prior to the start was brilliant; and the Ladies were very proud to be part of it through the provision of a wreath on their behalf of with a bugler and commentary for The Last Post very special.
The Cestrians dominated the first half in terms of attacking. Lizzy Clarke and Jess Ellison asking lots of questions of United’s back 5 – but lacking the final piece to break the deadlock. United were very comfortable in possession, constantly rotating the Midfield and Forwards and moving the ball, but without ever causing a threat to the back 5 of the Cestrians.
HT ended 0-0 but a very good advert for the game, home fans in fine voice and some excellent football played.
On 55 minutes, Lizzy Clarke picked the ball up deep in her own half, ran past 4/5 United players and slid the ball past the keeper. This was a pivotal moment in the game for the Cestrians. On 58 Nichole Havery smashed a half volley/bicycle kick into the net and suddenly Chester are looking comfortable. 63 minutes and the Cestrians extend the lead even further, great awareness from Lizzy Clarke to pick out Jess Ellison at the back post – no mistake from Jess and its 3-0. This is when Chester really switched it up, the passing and movement was exceptional, time and time again they opened up United. The best move of the game involved a box to box counter-attack 5 quick passes and a shot flashing over the bar.
On 83 minutes Nichole Havery smashes a shot from the edge of the box, a great shot giving the keeper no chance whatsoever; 0-4. With the game winding down The Cestrians mount one more attack, the ball is moved from central to wide and back central, Anna Collin shapes to shoot but slides a pass into Lucy Jackman, who absolutely hammered it into the net from 25+ yards for a very nice goal.
