The Cestrians went into this Womens FA Cup game looking to revenge a League defeat by Newcastle three weeks previously. They had to make several changes due to injuries and some player were still carrying a few knocks. They went straight onto teh offensive with the forwards causing the Newcastle back four problems and they struggled to deal with constant attacking. The Cestrians were unfortunate not to find themselves 3 or 4 up in the first half, with the only chance for Newcastle coming from a free kick, however it remained 0-0 at half time. Laura Hockaday broke the deadlock on 50 mins for Chester le Street with a bullet header from a corner. Four minutes later Newcastle hit the bar from a free kick. The Cestrians counter attacked at pace from the rebound, completely catching out Newcastle, with a great ball to Lizzy Clarke-Thompson but her shot whistled just over.
Another great ball on 60 minutes for the Cestrians is headed inches wide, then one of the Newcastle defenders under pressure to get to the ball before the Cestrian strikers headed past her own keeper only for it to miss the goal. Chester le Street Street were reduced to 10 players on 61 mins following a second yellow, for Brogan Prudhoe.
Newcastle attempted to apply some pressure with the numerical advantage, but it was Chester le Street who continued to look the most dangerous with 2 or 3 excellent counter attacks down the flanks. On 88 minutes Nichole Havery unleashed a worldie into the top far corner. An absolutely befitting end to a game which Chester le Street dominated from start to finish, even with a player less for a third of the game.
