Chester le Street Town Ladies produced an excellent performance away from home against a very good Brighouse side. It was a great way to bounce back from the mid week defeat against Newcastle United Ladies. The Cestrians had 8 first team players unavailable due to holidays and injuries but still put out a very strong squad which coupled with the performance was a testament to the squad
This fixture is never dull and this one certainly lived up to previous encounters. The Cestrians were tremendous defensively from the front to the back and didn’t really give Brighouse a chance at goal.
The breakthrough came on 56 mins, great determination from Nic Havery chasing down a ball from midfield, with the Brighouse keeper trying to smash the ball clear only to go straight to the Cestrian striker and into the net. They then doubled their lead on 77 minutes, some great build up play and overlap from Steph Loraine down the left wing, a great delivery into the box and Nic Havery smashes in her second. The Cestrians shut up shop and saw the game out comfortably and continued to threaten the Brighouse back 4 with the pace of Kacie Elson, Jess Ellison and Amy Lawson.
