Chester le Street Town Ladies kicked off their National Womens League Northern Division 1 League home campaign on Sunday, and produced another solid performance to beat Barnsley Ladies 3-1 at Moor Park and take them to pole position in the League after 2 wins.
Playing up the park against the rain and windy weather, they proved too strong for Barnsley in the first 30 mins and enjoyed most of the possession, threatening from virtually the kick off and they didn’t have long to wait for the opener, an absolute screamer on 10 mins. Lizzy Clarke raced down the left out of defence and delivered a great ball into the path of Nic Havery, for a first time outside of the boot finish from about 25 yards. The Cestrians came back again on 22 mins with great finish again from Nic Havery, but she was flagged for offside. However, on 23 mins, following good build up play between Laura Hockaday and Lizzy Clarke the latter finished coolly into the far corner to put the Cestrians 2-0.
Barnsley pulled a goal back on 82 mins, but Amy Kelly secured a comfortable win with a header from corner on 87 mins
