Chester le Street Town conceded a 90th minute goal to draw 2-2 at Redcar Athletic on Saturday. Redcar opened the stronger and put Chester under a lot of early pressure. They made the breakthrough after 16 minutes when a ball into the Chester area was left by both Alexander Walker and keeper Maximiliano Coombes and Adam Preston took full advantage to fire home. Chester le Street improved after this setback and restored parity after 34 minutes when Michael Graver curled in a corner for Walker to climb well and power in a header. Chester came close to taking the lead after 39 minutes when the ball was played forward into the Redcar area and Joshua King ran in to hit a header which rebounded back off the post. They did go in front after 62 minutes when Kevin Dixon played a great ball through for Michael Hepplewhite to go around the keeper and fire in to the net. Redcar pressed hard in the later stages in search of an equaliser. After 80 minutes the ball was played over from the left and it found Christopher Bivens in space but Coombes was quickly out to make a good block. He also suffered a leg injury but was able to carry on. Redcar’s pressure finally paid off in the 90th minute when Gary Redman met a cross from the right and his header looped over Coombes into the net. Redcar came close to grabbing a victory in the second minute of stoppage time when Arthur Connelly met a cross from the left but his shot crashed against the bar. A minute later, a ball into the area found Redman but Coombes made a good save to turn the ball away at full stretch. Not a very good performance but, in the end it was a good point for Chester because Redcar’s performance deserved at least a point.
