Chester le Street Town travelled to play Esh Winning at the weekend and came away with a 2-1 a win to maintain forth position in the Ebac NL Division 2 title race.
Chester le Street took the lead after 16 minutes when Joseph Hailes played a cross into the area which was initially cleared to the edge of the box and when it was returned into the middle, Kieran Megran was on hand to fire in. After 22 minutes, Joe Bates hit a low cross from the right into the Chester area for Joe Mole to turn towards the goal at the near post but Maximiliano Coombes made a good save. Chester came close to doubling their lead after 39 minutes when a long-range shot from Joe Grant came back off the post and Scott Robson was only able to fire the rebound over the bar. After 54 minutes a ball into the Chester area found Thomas Young but Coombes made a good save from his shot. Chester doubled their lead after 83 minutes when the ball was moved down the left and played inside for Dominic Laws to make a good turn and sweep the ball out right for Hailes to run on and fire in. Esh Winning replied immediately when the Chester defence twice failed to clear a ball in the area and Nicholas Marley was able to take advantage to reduce the deficit. Esh came close to an equaliser in stoppage time. They were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area which Joe Mole curled over the wall but it flashed just wide of the goal.
