Match report
Chester had to work hard to secure a 3-2 win over Washington. They came close to taking the lead after 2 minutes when the ball was played into the area to Michael Hepplewhite who turned well to slip the ball to Kieran Megran but he fired wide of the post from a good position. After 9 minutes, Megran was played in again but with just the keeper to beat he fired wide of the target. Chester took the lead a minute later when Joseph Hailes received the ball inside the area and moved forward to dispossess the keeper and slot home. Chester looked in complete control when they doubled their lead after 26 minutes. Owen Lancaster hit a cross into the area and Michael Hepplewhite headed into the net. Washington came close to pulling a goal back after 29 minutes when a ball into the area came off Kevin Dixon and fell to Christopher Pattinson. His shot was blocked by Max Coombes and he reacted quickly to gather the loose ball. Washington reduced the deficit after 36 minutes when the ball was played into the Chester area and it came off Owen Lancaster’s head and looped over Coombes into the net. Chester came close to another goal after 43 minutes when Hepplewhite received the ball and turned well to fire in a shot which keeper Craig Williams did well to turn the ball for a corner. After 65 minutes Craig Hennis raced clear but Coombes was out quickly to make a good block. Chester looked to have sealed the result with a third goal after 82 minutes when a long throw found Hepplewhite and he turned well to hit a good strike into the net. However, two minutes later, Washington pulled a goal back when a quick free kick was played to Allan on the edge of the area and he hit a great shot into the net. Chester had to defend well to hold onto their lead. In the last minute, Lancaster went past a defender into the area but he put his shot over the bar.
