Match Report
Chester were fortunate to recover from a two goal deficit and snatch a 3-3 draw with a last-minute leveller against Jarrow. Jarrow took the lead inside the first minute as the ball was played down the right and crossed to the far side for former Chester le Street player Jonathan Wightman to smash in a volley from close range and although Scott Cresswell got his hands to the ball he could not prevent it going into the net. After 11 minutes, Joshua King played Scott Robson through and he got to the by-line and his a low cross into the middle but it was cut out by Jak Wells. Chester equalised after 33 minutes when Daniel Candlish curled a corner from the right to the far side where Alexander Walker powered in a header. Jarrow regained the lead after 40 minutes when a good move down the right saw Ross Toward break into the area a hit a great strike into the goal off the underside of the bar. Jarrow extended their lead after 49 minutes when a ball through the middle was not dealt with and it allowed Wightman to race through and produce a clinical finish. Chester improved their play after the hour mark and were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area. Craig Marron curled it over the wall and Wells made a great save to turn the ball over the bar. Chester reduced the deficit on 71 minutes when the ball was crossed over from the left and Walker had a shot cleared off the line. The ball was retuned back into the middle and Kevin Dixon had a header which Wells made a great block but the ball only fell to King and he drove the ball home through a crowd of players. Chester scored a dramatic equaliser in the last minute as a corner was played in from the left and several players attacked the ball with Connor Lyon claiming the last touch as the ball found the net. I’m sure that Jarrow would think they should have claimed all three points but the lads showed their determination and battling spirit in the final twenty minutes.
