Chester le Street Town went out of the Northern League Cup when they lost 2-0 at Washington.
After 6 minutes, Daniel McGuire floated the ball from the left to the far side for Joshua King to turn the ball goalwards but it was deflected off a defender for a corner. After 20 minutes Andrew Brown pulled the ball back to Rhys Evans but his shot hit the side netting. After 24 minutes the ball was crossed from the right. Samuel Grievson got in a good header which Jack Wilson did well to tip over the bar. From the corner, Grievson put in another head which Wilson also tipped over the bar. After 28 minutes, a good passing move from Washington saw the ball played to Jake Pickard inside the Chester le Street area but he blasted the ball well over the bar from a good position.
Washington made the breakthrough after 33 minutes when Grievson went past Callum Greaves near the by-line and he was then brought down by Greaves with Pickard converting the penalty. Washington doubled the lead after 66 minutes when a corner was played in from the right and Brown ran in unchallenged to head in. Washington finished the game strongly and could easily have stretched their lead in the last five minutes. After 86 minutes, Callum Wilson broke clear in the area but Wilson made a good block from his shot. Two minutes later, Callum Dent crossed into the middle but Pickard headed over the bar from close range. After 89 minutes Evans fire in a shot from 20 yards by Wilson made a good save. Overall another poor performance and the defeat could have been much larger.
