Chester le Street Town enjoyed this local derby win against Newcastle Unt Womens FC in front of a crowd approaching 100, finally coming out on top 3-2 after taking a second half 3-0 lead.
The Cestrians started brightly and deservedly went ahead on 21 mins through Nichole Havery. They then created numerous chances to increase their lead , with the Newcastle keeper thwarting them more than once, before increasing their lead with a Newcastle OG right on half time, to go in at the interval 2-0 to the good. Newcastle started the second half with more vigour but the Chester le Street defence held strong with Brogan Prudhoe and Rachel Mellor comanding the center of the defence and keeper Christina Lee pulling off three good saves to keep a clean sheet. Chester le Street went 3-0 up on 65 minutes with an excellent effort from 25 yds which sailed over the Newcastle keeper. Newcastle made use of their substitues and started a come back with a goal on 75 mins and continued to press and were again on the scoresheet in 88 mins, to bring the score back to 3-2, giving a frantic last 2 mins but the Cestrians held out to take the 3 points and lift them off the bottom of the League
