Chester le Street Town were held to a 2-2 draw by Jarrow.
Chester came close to taking the lead after 9 minutes when a good through ball set Michael Hepplewhite on goal but his chip over the keeper crashed against the bar and bounced down onto the line and away to safety. Two minutes later, a ball into the Jarrow area led to a scramble with Daniel McGuire stabbing the ball towards the goal but it was cleared off the line. After 14 minutes, Craig Marron hit a free kick from the right over the far side of the goal for Lee Mole to head back into the middle where Hepplewhite hit a great first-time volley which brought a great save from Jak Wells. Somewhat against the run of play, Jarrow took the lead after 19 minutes. A corner from the right was cleared to the right corner of the box and Steven Graham hit it first-time and the ball found the net off the far post. After 27 minutes, Kieran Megran played the ball out right for Hepplewhite who quickly pulled the ball back into the middle for Megran to fire in a good effort which brought another good save from Wells. After 48 minutes, the ball was played over from the right for Megran to get in a header but the ball came back off the post and was scrambled clear. The Cestrians drew level after 54 minutes Alex White hit a free kick from the right corner of the box which was heading for the top corner until Wells made yet another great save. From this second corner, a shot went into the net with Kevin Dixon claiming the last touch. Jarrow regained the lead after 60 minutes with a rather fortunate goal. A cross into the Chester area was cleared but the ball rebounded back into the path of Kristofor Goss, who raced into the area to slip the ball past Jack Wilson. Chester restored parity after 73 minutes when Alexander Walker powered in a header from close range from Craig Marron’s left-wing corner. I suppose that twice coming from behind made it a good point to win but having hit the woodwork twice and seeing the Jarrow keeper making several excellent saves, it was a game we could have won.
