Chester le Street Town tuned in their worst performance of the season to crash 5-1 at home to Thornaby.
After 5 minutes the ball was played through to Kurtis Howes but his shot went straight to Jack Wilson and he was able to punch the ball away. Two minutes later, Lewis Murphy turned on the edge of the area but he fired wide of the post. After a good passing move, the ball was played through to Brid Thompson just inside the area and he turned well to fire in a shot which brought a comfortable save from the keeper. After 14 minutes, Kallum Hannah found some space to fire in a low shot which Wilson held. Thornaby made the breakthrough after 18 minutes when a defensive mistake allowed the ball to be crossed into the middle for Murphy to turn in. Thornaby doubled their lead on 29 minutes when a corner from the left was slipped onto the unmarked Charlie Marshall who fired home. After 38 minutes, the ball was played over to Hannah who turned well to fire in at the near post. Thornaby extended their lead after 42 minutes when Hannah moved down the left and drove the ball across the goal and it was turned in off a defender. Chester le Street played a lot better in the second half. After 57 minutes Alex White found some space to fire in a good shot with the keeper making a good block. After 61 minutes, Hannah fired in a low shot which brought a good save from Wilson. After 64 minutes, David Surrey played a good cross into Joshua King turned well to get in a shot but the keeper made a good save from close range. After 71 minutes, a left wing corner was played back to Joe Hillerby but his long-range shot brought another good save from Wilson. After 77 minutes, White made another good run before firing a low shot towards the corner but the keeper made a good save. The Cestrians finally pulled a goal back after 78 minutes when the ball was played into the area for Lee Mole to beat a defender and fire in. Thornaby completed the scoring after 83 minutes when Connor Lyon was penalised for pulling back Murphy and Hillerby converted the penalty.
