Chester le Street Town turned in their worst performance of the season as they crashed to a 1-0 defeat at home to Darlington RA.
Chester came close to a goal inside the first minutes as Michael Hepplewhite made a good cross from the left but Lee Mole could only head over the bar. After 13 minutes, Hepplewhite passed the ball in from the left to Mole but he fired his shot just wide of the post. Darlington took the lead after 18 minutes when a clearance went to David Harrison on the right side. He hit a firm shot which was left by Kevin Dixon and the ball went into the net. After 34 minutes, James Connor was played through on the right and with Jack Wilson hesitating to come out, Connor slipped the ball past the keeper but Joshua King got back to clear the ball off the line. RA came close to doubling their lead after 42 minutes when Dominic Joynes cross from the left clipped the top of the bar. The first half was probably the worst 45 minutes of football ever seen at Moor Park. The second half did not turn out any better with Chester unable to get a grip on the game. After 76 minutes, a corner from the right was played into the heart of the RA box but Kevin Dixon headed over from close range. A minute later, Dixon’s cross found Mole who fired in a decent shot which the keeper managed to block and the ball was scrambled clear. Deep into stoppage time Chester almost snatched an equaliser/ Daniel McGuire hit a good cross from the right over to the far side for Kieran Megran to head back into the middle to Mole, but his header came down off the bar and again the ball was scrambled clear.
