Chester le Street Town had to come from behind to earn a point from a 1-1 draw against Durham City.
The Cestrians came close to taking the lead after 10 minutes when Andrew Clarkson received the ball on the right and cut into the box to fire in a good, low shot which was blocked by Duham City keeper, former Chester le Street player, Nathan Armin and the ball was cleared. After 29 minutes, Christopher Pattinson fired in a low shot from the edge of the area but Jack Wilson made a comfortable safe at the foot of the post. Durham had a lucky let off after 36 minutes when Clarkson ran through on the left and his shot across goal came off a defender and then in clipped the post and went to safety. Right on half time Armin in the City goal made an excellent save to prevent the Cestrians going in at the interval in the lead. Durham made the breakthrough after 48 minutes when Benjamin Joyeux raced down the right before cutting to to fire in a shot which beat Wilson at the near post. After 60 minutes, a high ball into the area saw Clarkson beat the keeper to send a header towards the goal but Damien Potts somehow got back to hook the ball clear. After 73 minutes a shot rebounded off Aaron Reynolds and fell to Joyeux who fired a good shot towards goal but Wilson made a great save. Chester le Street equalised after 78 minutes when a long clearance from Wilson found Daniel Maddison and he raced into the box to fire in. Deep into stoppage time Maddison chased a ball into the area but didn’t make a good contact and the keeper was able to clear the ball away. It was a decent game and the draw was probably the fair result.
