Chester-le-Street players must have left the pitch wondering how they lost this one. For most of the second half they were camped in the Ryton half but just could not score .
Chester-le-Street started well with two good chances to open the scoring from a corner on 9 mins both Greaves and Hepplewhite unable to connect with headers. Ryton started to come into the game but it was the Cestrians who took the lead on 32mins with a Michael Hepplewhite unstoppable effort into the top corner of the Ryton goal, giving the keeper no chance. This gave the Cestrians a lift and they ended the half comfortably in front without capitalising on the chances they created.
Ryton started the second half with more vigour and it was them who got the next goal. In the 69th minute they produced one of their best moves of the game and Martyn Hepple finished some neat passing to record their first home goal of the season.
Chester-le-Street then created several chances, including Hepplewhite hitting the post with one effort and Ryton’s Anderson hooking a McGuire lob which seemed destined for goal off the line on the 90th minute. It was to prove to be a crucial interception as Ryton broke away to score a goal and record the win.
