Chester le Street Town had a good 1-0 win at Blyth AFC. They created a good opening after 5 minutes when Lee Mole won possession near the half-way line and slipped the ball through for Michael Hepplewhite but he fired his shot from 25 yards well over the bar. After 8 minutes, a ball into the Chester le Street area found Michael Tait and he quickly passed it left to Ryan McGorrigan who hit a good shot which brought a good save from Jack Wilson. Chester le Street came close after 28 minutes when Blyth lost possession on half-way line and the ball broke for Daniel McGuire. He raced forwards into the box but his shot across goal went just wide of the far post. Blyth missed a glorious chance after 48 minutes when a ball over from the left found McGorrigan in space inside the six yard but wide of the target. The Cestrians made the breakthrough after 61 minutes when Craig Marron curled a free kick from the left to the far side and Daniel Maddison ran in to head home. Blyth started to pile on the pressure in search of an equaliser. After 66 minutes a good move down the right saw McGorrigan cross to the far side but Robert Taylor header well over the bar from close range. After 71 minutes, the ball was played to David Robinson inside the area but his good effort brought a fine save from Wilson. Blyth came close after 73 minutes when a corner from the right was met by Gary Day, but his firm header was cleared off the line by Christopher Stephenson. After 82 minutes, a ball over from the left was played towards Taylor but he failed to make a good contact with the ball and Wilson was able to gather the ball. Blyth may well claim that they deserved at least a point from the game but the team turned in a great performance and defended well.
