Chester-le-Street Town Football Club are currently engaging with two Charities who work with Adults with Learning Difficulties, GOALS Pelton and Ethicare Durham. The County Durham GOALs programme is managed by Northern communities’ charity, DISC, and is designed for those with learning disabilities to Go Out and Live – to enjoy life to the full.
The participants have been working for the last 6 months, initially with a Coach from the Sunderland AFC Charity The Foundation of Light to meet their expectations of enjoying life.
Since September 2016 a Project Manager form both GOALS and Ethicare have run the 1 hour session on a Wednesday (Ethicare) and Friday (GOALS) with the intention to make the sessions sustainable through the Project Managers taking appropriate Coaching qualifications provided by Durham FA. Each section has been Affiliated under the Chester le Street Town FC banner and it is hoped that they can either join a league or play friendly fixtures against other organisations.
Members of the Service users from GOALs (Go Out and Live) Project recently scored a success against their local police force in a football challenge played against a group of local police from Pelton on Chester-le-Street Town FC’s new multi-use 3G pitch, where they were able to put their skills gained over the last few months into practice.
